Freestyle Academy is North East Lincolnshire’s new and innovative music enrichment project, which aims to build confidence through performance, develop social skills and improve mental health in children, young people and adults.
Due to the success of Cleethorpes-based ‘Trinity Sounds’ and the increasing local demand for music tech workshops, Freestyle Academy hope to build a community of local musicians and mentors and to offer employment pathways to young people and adults.
From May, Freestyle Academy will run music tech workshops within North East Lincolnshire’s three towns:
On the day there will be a mix of drop in interactive workshops performances, covering drums (melodics), keys (melodics), guitar, Ableton Push, DJ – Traktor, bandlab, beatboxing and rapping.
To see Freestyle in action, visit them on Facebook or check out their most recent workshop on Youtube.

Shoezone to relocate to prime unit in Freshney Place Shopping Centre
Shoezone, the national footwear retailer has confirmed its plans to move from its current location on the Bullring into Freshney Place Shopping Centre.
The popular brand has committed to taking a 4,000sqft, double faced unit in a prime location in the shopping centre. Formerly JD Sports (before it moved into its current, larger location in the shopping centre), Shoezone will be located between Greggs and O2.
The relocation of the retailer is in step with the plans to redevelop the top town area and create a new leisure offering for the town, following funding awarded by the successful Future High Street Fund bid.
Amanda Austin, centre director at Freshney Place says: “It’s incredibly positive that a national retailer such as ShoeZone has remained committed to Grimsby and will now trade here in the shopping centre. Their relocation into a large, prime position in Freshney Place speak volumes as we edge closer to the town’s exciting redevelopment plans.”
Preparations for the new store will begin in the next few days. A complete refurbishment of the unit will create a fresh and inviting space for customers with plans to open in the coming weeks.
The shopping centre management team has also successfully converted a number of local, independent traders into permanent retailers since the pandemic adding variety to its offering. These include Willow Tree Boutique, Paris Hairs and Rushby Sweets.
