Collection Point – Freshney Place Customer Service Desk, near HMV
Date – Between 18th February and 4th March 2019
Freshney Place is taking part in a spectacle collection to support less advantaged communities in Africa. The collection, which is in partnership with The Rotary Club of Cleethorpes, is inviting people to bring any old, unwanted spectacles.
The glasses are cleaned, repaired (where possible) and graded, then packed up by Ruth Perrot – a fellow (York) Rotarian and optician who travels to communities in the Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Tanzania and Senegal annually to dispense spectacles collected from our area.
Ruth organises clinics dispensing over 200 pairs of spectacles per day to people who cannot afford to buy a pair for themselves. These include parents, children, teachers and anyone else who needs improved vision to cope with work and family life.
