Teaching children how to live a greener lifePosted: Monday 05th March
Last week we had a fun packed morning at Market Square as 75 children from Edward Heneage Primary Academy joined us for our Love Your Planet event. Part of Freshney’s Green Grimsby campaign, the children had a great time learning about how they could embrace a more environmentally friendly approach to living.
The educational talk was given by renowned local wildlife and horticulturalist, Loretta Rivett who engaged the children in activities to help them understand the importance of maintaining a healthy habitat for local plants and wildlife in addition to learning about composting. The children were each given a photograph and asked to place it in the correct place in a makeshift garden, illustrating how plants and wildlife co-existed. She also talked to them about composting and its benefits, as well as learning what could and couldn’t be included in a compost bin.
At the end of the event, which lasted an hour, each of the children were given a fun activity pack to take away. This was designed to reinforce their learning and to help them remember how they could contribute to a greener planet during their lifetime.
