River Clean with Grimsby in BloomPosted: Monday 02nd July
On Saturday 30 June, seven members of the Freshney Place Shopping Centre team donned their wellies to help remove rubbish and litter from the river Freshney in an organised clean up.
In partnership with Grimsby in Bloom, Keep Britain Tidy, VANEL and the local community, the river clean aimed to clear a section of the river of the debris that can cause harm to wildlife and plants as well as creating an eyesore in the town centre.
Amanda Austin, Centre Director at Freshney Place Shopping Centre said: “It’s important that we are all responsible about how we manage our waste and its removal. Unfortunately, pollution has become an everyday part of our lives and this is having disastrous consequences for wildlife and the environment.
As part of our Green Grimsby initiative, the team at Freshney Place are pledging to do more to be environmentally responsible not just within the centre, but also to help make a difference to the surrounding area, taking part in this river clean is one example of how we can all contribute.”
